According to an industry source, positive progress has been made in the construction of Bin Qasim Power Plant III and the work on the 900 MW BQPS all power plant is in full swing. Gas turbines and steam generators are also expected to arrive in Karachi soon.
As soon as the necessary construction work is completed, the installation will take place said the sources. The first unit of this plant is likely be operational by the beginning of summer 2021 as the electricity demand will intensify, while the second unit will be operational by the end of 2021.
It is also important to clarify here that since the government pays millions of rupees every year in terms of “capacity payments”, the effective solution was to provide this power to K Electric. The government had finally decided to implement it in June 2020 and the move was welcomed by all stakeholders.
The good news for the dwellers of Shar-e-Quaid is that the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has approved the amendment to the generation license of K Electric and the 900 MW RLNG BQPS III power plant has been handed over to the company.
A hearing has been held by the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) and it is expected that the necessary approval for laying the pipeline will be obtained soon.
