ISLAMABAD: In the Islamabad High Court, the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) has contested the outcome of the Senate election.
PPP has asked the court to overturn the vote rejections, according to details. The party believes that Yousaf Raza Gillani was elected as Senate Chairman.
According to the reports, the counsel for the PPP candidate in the Senate election filed a plea. The prosecutor alleged in the plea that Yousaf Raza Gillani’s seven votes were unfairly refused.
Sadiq Sanjrani, the government’s nominee for Senate chairman, was re-elected, while Mirza Muhammad Afridi was elected deputy chairman, while PDM nominees Yousuf Raza Gilani and Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Haideri were defeated.
98 members, according to the reports, of the Senate’s Upper House voted for the Chairman and Deputy Chairman to be elected. Senate Chairman Sadiq Sanjrani received 48 votes, his rival Yousuf Raza Gilani received 42 votes, and seven votes were refused. One vote was also deducted for marking all candidates.
The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) had previously agreed to appeal Sadiq Sanjrani’s election as Chairman of the Senate in the Islamabad High Court (IHC).
The party held a consultative meeting under the chairmanship of PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto.
The meeting was attended by Yousuf Raza Gilani, Raja Pervez Ashraf, Sherry Rehman, and others. The meeting decided to continue the constitutional and legal battle against Pakistan’s Tehreek e Insaf regime (PTI).
