ISLAMABAD: Former Prime Minister and Pakistan People’s Party’s leader, Yousaf Raza Gillani has said that “We [PPP] wants Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) to remain intact”, after PML-N leader Ahsan Iqbal criticised its alliance for nominating Gillani as the leader of the Opposition.
The statement came during a press conference Gillani held on Friday. The PPP leader also mentioned that the party had called a meeting of its Central Executive Council to obtain legal advice on whether or not the Senate elections could be postponed if opposition lawmakers resigned.
“The Parliament is the voice of the people of Pakistan, and we must not ignore this voice,” Gillani said, defending the PPP’s decision to run in the recent elections.
Previously, PML-N leader Ahsan Iqbal admonished the PPP for naming Gillani as the Senate’s leader of the opposition and pursuing senators from the Balochistan Awami Party (BAP).
