Shoaib Akhtar, a former Pakistani sprinter, resigned live on camera after encountering “rude and unpleasant” behaviour during a PTV Sports broadcast.
After Pakistan’s triumph against New Zealand, Akhtar and the show’s host, Dr Nauman Niaz, had a verbal altercation while debating the influence of the Lahore Qalandars’ Player Development Program (PDP) on pacers Shaheen Afridi and Haris Rauf’s performance.
“You’re being a bit disrespectful, and I hate to say it, but if you’re being overly clever, you may go.” “I’m saying that on the air,” Niaz said Akhtar before cutting to a commercial break.
Shoaib and Nauman stayed on the broadcast after the commercial break, but the former finally opted to leave the show after apologising to the other guests, who included cricket legends such as Sir Viv Richards and David Gower.
“Apologies, folks, apologies, apologies, apologies, apologies, apologies, apologies, apologies PTV has asked me to quit. I don’t think I should be sitting here right now after how I was treated on national television. As a result, I’m resigning. “Thank you very much,” Akhtar remarked as he exited the set.
Akhtar later recounted the situation on his official Twitter account with a small video and a handful of tweets.
