Rishi Sunak has become Britain’s first prime minister of colour. India is over the moon after Sunak’s elevation.
A 42-year-old hindu became the ruling Conservatives’ new leader on Monday after rival contender Penny Mordaunt could not secure enough nominations from Tory MPs, and Boris Johnson surprisingly aborted a comeback bid.
However, Rishi Sunak MP, 42, was born in Southampton in a Hindu-Punjabi family however his grandparents were born and raised in the Pakistani city of Gujranwala in Pakistan’s Punjab province. Sunak has his roots in both Indian and Pakistani.
As soon as Rishi became the prime minister, many on Twitter laid claim to the new British leader.
The newly elected UK Prime minister will take power in a morning audience with King Charles III.
