Canada Faces Decline in Number of Polar Bears
The government surveys the Canadian arctic every five years to determine and keep a record of the number of past bears in that area.
However, the latest reports have been quite shocking and disappointing because the survey suggests the number of polar bears in the Canadian arctic is decreasing with time.
The town of Churchill is a tourist attraction that is known as the ‘polar bear capital of the world where the government conducted a survey and found out that five years ago, the number of polar bears in that region was 826.
However, a recent survey revealed that the number of polar bears has decreased from 842 to only 618.
The research study further mentioned that “Comparison to aerial surveys estimates from 2011 and 2016 suggests that the WH (Western Hudson Bay population) may be decreasing in abundance.”
Moreover, the researchers suggest that the decline in the number of polar bears is due to climate change. Because of climate change, the far north is getting warmer at four times rapid rate which is an alarming situation disrupting the natural habitat of Polar bears provoking them to leave their regions and move to other regions.
