NADRA to Issue Free CNICs to Flood Victims
NADRA which is the National Database and Registration Authority decided to issue free-of-cost identity cards to flood-affected victims of Sindh, Punjab, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Last year, Pakistan witnessed a series of floods in Sindh, Punjab, Balochistan, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa which destroyed thousands of houses, people’s properties, livestock, killed more than a thousand people and injured more than 13000 people.
Chairman of NADRA, Tariq Malik visited the flood-affected areas and announced to The Express that NADRA will issue free CNICs to flood-affected people.
He said, “After the catastrophic floods, the federal government introduced stringent austerity measures, and cut expenses to help our brothers and sisters.”
He further added, “NADRA has widespread infrastructure and network across in all provinces, but it was facing various challenges due to the situation caused by floods and heavy rains. On the one hand, the NADRA employees and their homes were inundated with flood water and heavy rains. On the other hand, it was a huge challenge to rebuild completely destroyed offices in those areas, and provision of seamless service of the issuance of identity cards to the victims was also a daunting task.”
