The energy minister of Saudi Arabia, Prince Abdul Aziz bin Salman explained Saudi Arabia’s plight to utilize domestically sourced uranium as nuclear fuel.
He said, “The kingdom intends to utilize its national uranium resources, including in joint ventures with willing partners in accordance with international commitments and transparency standards.’
He further mentioned that “the entire nuclear fuel cycle involves the production of yellowcake, low enriched uranium and the manufacturing of nuclear fuel both for our national use and of course for export.”
Saudi Arabia is the largest exporter of oil in the world and it has explored diverse uranium in the Gulf area and plans to utilize it rather than reprocess spent fuel.
However, there is no clear political intention behind this decision by the Gulf country because Saudi Prince, Muhammad bin Salman said in 2018 that Arab will develop nuclear weapons if Iran did.
Iran or any other country from international community has not commented on Saudi Arabia’s decision regarding nuclear weapons.
