At least nine people have been killed in a large-scale Israeli attack on the northern part of the occupied West Bank, according to Palestinian health officials and media reports.

The attack began early Wednesday and involved hundreds of Israeli ground troops, fighter aircraft, drones, and bulldozers. The assault targeted three key areas: Jenin, Tulkarem, and the Jordan Valley.

The Palestine Red Crescent Society reported that Israeli forces killed four people in the Far’a refugee camp in Tubas. Several others were injured, but ambulances struggled to reach them due to Israeli restrictions on access.

The Palestinian Health Ministry confirmed that two people died in Jenin. Additionally, three others were killed when an Israeli drone struck their vehicle in the nearby village of Seir.

Al Jazeera’s Nida Ibrahim, reporting from Bethlehem, stated that Israeli forces described the operation as the largest of its kind since 2002. She noted that raids on the West Bank have more than tripled since the start of Israel’s war on Gaza in October.

The recent escalation includes increased aerial strikes against Palestinian fighters. The Israeli military claims these strikes target the use of improvised explosive devices (IEDs) by Palestinian groups.

Middle East political analyst Omar Baddar suggested that the incursion might be part of a broader Israeli strategy. He argued that it could be an attempt to “ethnically cleanse” Palestinian territories.

The intense operation has sparked widespread concern and condemnation. The heavy military presence and ongoing violence highlight the escalating tensions in the region.
