A high-level Denmark Delegation, led by FLSmidth Global CEO Mikko Keto and Danish Ambassador to Pakistan Jakob Linulf, met with Federal Commerce Minister Jam Kamal Khan to explore investment opportunities in Pakistan’s mining sector.

The Danish delegation expressed strong interest in investing in Pakistan, particularly in mining zones. Minister Jam Kamal Khan highlighted the vast potential of Pakistan’s mining sector, especially in Balochistan’s untapped resources. He pointed out opportunities for empowering small-scale mining and processing.

The Minister suggested that FLSmidth and the Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP) collaborate to organize awareness sessions and workshops. These would aim to enhance industry knowledge and skills. He also proposed creating sectoral councils for Mining and Cement to improve business coordination and matchmaking between local and international stakeholders.

The meeting also focused on sustainable development. Minister Khan emphasized the importance of adopting a green framework and transferring technology to ensure sustainable progress in the mining and cement sectors. He noted that this approach would align with the Pakistan-Denmark Green Framework Engagement and help comply with EU regulations like the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM).

FLSmidth CEO Mikko Keto acknowledged the Pakistani government’s efforts to protect and promote foreign investment. He expressed a strong desire to increase investments, especially in the mining sector. Keto also highlighted FLSmidth’s commitment to upskilling and training the local workforce, particularly the youth, to ensure that the benefits of these investments are shared within the community.

The discussion underscored the potential for a stronger partnership between Denmark and Pakistan in the mining sector, with a focus on sustainable practices and community development. The meeting concluded with mutual optimism about future collaborations.
