The Power Division announced on Wednesday that consumers could benefit from a reduction of up to Rs2.65 per unit (including taxes) due to fuel price adjustments. The statement explained that electricity prices have decreased by Rs2.93 per unit due to fuel price adjustments. However, there has been an increase of Rs1.74 per unit under quarterly adjustments.
As a result, agricultural and domestic consumers using up to 300 units will receive a Rs2.19 per unit reduction in their bills, while others will see a relief of Rs2.65 per unit.

This announcement comes as the government, led by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, faces mounting criticism over high electricity tariffs, which have worsened the inflation crisis. In response, the government is renegotiating contracts with independent power producers (IPPs) in a bid to bring down unsustainable electricity rates.
Minister Awais Leghari, who heads the Power Division, emphasized the need for reform, stating that the current pricing structure is unsustainable. Rising power costs have sparked social unrest and impacted industries, as the economy struggles under the weight of inflation.
In July, the government announced a Rs50 billion relief package for electricity consumers. The package protects customers using up to 200 units from further increases in their tariffs for three months, easing the burden for many during the inflation surge.
