Pakistan clinched their first victory of the Asian Hockey Champions Trophy on Wednesday with a 2-1 win over Japan at the Moqi Hockey Training Base in Hulunbuir City, Inner Mongolia, China.

Nadeem Ahmed put Pakistan ahead with a goal in the first quarter. Japan equalized in the second quarter, but Sufyan Khan restored Pakistan’s lead in the 10th minute of the same quarter. This crucial goal was enough to secure the win for the Green Shirts.

Previously, Pakistan’s first two matches ended in draws. Their clash against South Korea on Monday resulted in a 2-2 draw after Pakistan failed to maintain a two-goal lead. South Korea initially led with a goal in the second quarter, and Pakistan struggled to score until the fourth quarter. Hanan Shahid’s two quick goals seemed to give Pakistan the edge, but Korea managed to level the game just before the final whistle.

On September 8, Pakistan’s encounter with Malaysia also ended in a 2-2 draw. Despite the draws, the recent win against Japan has injected renewed confidence into the team.

Pakistan’s upcoming fixtures include a match against China on September 12 and a game against India on September 14.

Pakistan’s Asian Champions Trophy Schedule:

  • vs Malaysia (2-2) — September 8
  • vs South Korea (2-2) — September 9
  • vs Japan (2-1) — September 11
  • vs China — September 12
  • vs India — September 14
