The Legend of Maula Jatt Set to Release in India on October 2
The film was initially scheduled to release in India in December 2022. However, this plan was postponed.
The Pakistani blockbuster The Legend of Maula Jatt (TLOMJ), featuring stars Fawad Khan and Mahira Khan, is finally making its way to Indian cinemas. The much-anticipated release is set for October 2, 2024. This announcement came via the official Instagram page of the film, confirming the news to fans.
The post read, “The Legend Of Maula Jatt’s legacy lives on! Catch the cinematic masterpiece in Indian theatres from 2nd October 2024. Book your tickets now!” Fans were also teased with an update, stating, “P.S. Cinema lists to be shared soon.”
The film was initially scheduled to release in India in December 2022. However, this plan was postponed indefinitely, leaving fans both in Pakistan and India disappointed. At the time, an INOX multiplex chain spokesperson told Dawn, “The distributor has conveyed that the release of the film in India has now been postponed indefinitely, and we have not been given any new date or the reason for stalling the release.”
Zee Studios had acquired the distribution rights for the film. They were planning to release it in Delhi and Punjab, but no official statement was given during the delay in 2022. Although the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) didn’t comment on the matter, sources mentioned that the theatre announcements would be made after CBFC clearance.
There were rumors that the Indian political party Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) might have opposed the film’s release, adding more hurdles. Despite these challenges, the Punjab Censor Board was expected to proceed with the approval.
TLOMJ’s journey from Pakistan to India has been marked by delays, but its success has remained constant. The film debuted in Pakistan on October 13, 2022, and has since achieved remarkable milestones. By August 2023, The Legend of Maula Jatt had earned over Rs400 crore worldwide, making it the first Pakistani film to surpass this landmark.
With its October 2024 release in India, TLOMJ becomes the first Pakistani movie to hit Indian theatres in over a decade. The last Pakistani film to achieve this was Shoaib Mansoor’s Bol. Fans in India have expressed excitement about the upcoming release, especially given the film’s talented cast and reputation as a cinematic masterpiece.
The success of The Legend of Maula Jatt has already cemented its place in Pakistani film history, and its release in India promises to further expand its legacy. Fans across the border are eagerly awaiting October 2 to see the epic story on the big screen.
