KARACHI – The Election Commission has confirmed that the Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) Elections 2024-26 will be held on September 21, 2024, as originally planned. This clarification comes in response to misleading claims circulating on social media regarding a potential postponement. The commission emphasized that the elections will proceed on the scheduled date without any changes.
The voting will take place from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM at KCCI’s headquarters. All preparations for the event are in their final stages, ensuring a smooth process for the voters. The commission has assured the business community and candidates that there will be no disruptions or delays in the election process.
To ensure a transparent and efficient voting system, the Election Commission has set up 52 polling booths on the ground floor of KCCI’s building. Voters are urged to bring their original Computerized National Identity Cards (CNIC) as it is a mandatory requirement to cast a vote. The commission reminded all participants that only those with valid CNICs would be allowed to enter the polling area and participate in the election process.
The election will determine 30 candidates from the business community who will represent various sectors within the KCCI for the 2024-26 term. The candidates are from diverse backgrounds and represent a wide range of industries. This year’s election is anticipated to be particularly competitive due to the increased involvement of key stakeholders in Karachi’s business sector.
The KCCI elections are a crucial event for the business community, as the elected representatives will shape policies, influence trade decisions, and lead initiatives that impact commerce in Karachi. The Chamber has historically played a significant role in the city’s economic development, advocating for business-friendly policies and facilitating dialogue between businesses and the government.
In a public statement, the Election Commission strongly condemned the false rumors about a possible delay, terming them as an attempt to create confusion among the voters. They urged members of the KCCI to disregard such information and rely only on official communications from the commission. The commission also expressed concern over the spread of misinformation on social media, advising the public to verify facts from reliable sources.
Security arrangements have also been finalized to ensure a peaceful and orderly election. Law enforcement agencies will be deployed at KCCI’s headquarters to maintain order and address any potential disturbances.
As the election date approaches, candidates are actively campaigning, meeting with voters, and promoting their agendas. Many have pledged to bring reforms that will benefit Karachi’s business community, addressing issues such as infrastructure development, taxation, and international trade relations.
Voters are encouraged to participate actively in the election process to ensure that their voices are heard in shaping the future of commerce in Karachi.
