Pakistan has signed a contract to sell JF-17 Block-III fighter jets to Azerbaijan, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) announced on Thursday. This deal aims to enhance Azerbaijan’s air power and strengthen its defense capabilities. The agreement highlights Pakistan’s ongoing efforts to expand defense cooperation with friendly countries.

Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev recently visited Pakistan, where he was briefed on the combat abilities of the JF-17 Block-III fighter jets. The Pakistan Air Force (PAF) showcased the aircraft’s versatile employment options during the visit. President Aliyev expressed keen interest in the aircraft’s advanced features, especially its potential to elevate Azerbaijan’s defense forces.

As part of his visit, President Aliyev also requested Pakistan to deploy a PAF contingent to Baku for ADEX-2024. This event provided an opportunity for Pakistan to display the capabilities of the JF-17 Block-III at Azerbaijan’s prestigious defense expo. The Pakistani fighter jets participated in an aerial display, showcasing their agility and precision. The event also featured a static display of the aircraft, with President Aliyev inspecting the fighter jets firsthand.

Notably, the JF-17 Thunder Block-III jets executed air-to-air refueling from Pakistan’s Multi Role Tanker Transport (MRTT) aircraft. This demonstrated the long-range capabilities of the fighter jets, as they made a single-hop journey to Baku. The maneuver underscored the fighter jet’s extended operational range and the PAF’s advanced aerial skills.

During the event, President Aliyev watched the JF-17 Block-III’s enthralling aerial demonstration. The fighter jet displayed its agility, speed, and maneuverability. PAF pilots executed complex aerial moves, further showcasing their exceptional expertise. This performance reinforced the professionalism and capabilities of Pakistan’s defense forces.

The JF-17 Block-III is a 4.5-generation multi-role fighter aircraft. It features an AESA radar and is equipped with long-range Beyond Visual Range (BVR) missiles. This modern fighter jet is capable of performing a wide array of combat missions. Its cutting-edge technology offers Azerbaijan contemporary air power solutions, bolstering its national security.

President Aliyev expressed his gratitude for Pakistan’s support, noting that this collaboration will strengthen the military partnership between the two nations. He highlighted how the deal and military cooperation will consolidate the existing defense ties and further deepen the warm relations between Azerbaijan and Pakistan.

This agreement marks a significant milestone in defense cooperation between the two countries. Pakistan’s JF-17 Block-III fighter jets, known for their affordability and effectiveness, are becoming increasingly popular in international defense markets. The sale to Azerbaijan not only strengthens military ties but also enhances Pakistan’s reputation as a key player in global defense exports.

In conclusion, the JF-17 Block-III sale is a win-win for both countries. Azerbaijan will benefit from advanced military capabilities, while Pakistan continues to build on its defense collaborations. The deal exemplifies Pakistan’s commitment to fostering closer ties with friendly nations and promoting peace through strength.
