President Zardari Meets Putin, Calls for Stronger Bilateral Ties

ASHGABAT: President Asif Ali Zardari and Russian President Vladimir Putin discussed strengthening bilateral relations during an informal meeting on Friday. The interaction took place on the sidelines of a two-day international forum in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan, marking the 300th birth anniversary of Turkmen philosopher and poet Magtymguly Faragi.

According to a statement from the President House, both leaders exchanged warm wishes during their brief encounter.

President Zardari, who arrived in Turkmenistan on Thursday, also addressed the forum. He emphasized the importance of regional connectivity and called for deeper cultural and economic cooperation among neighboring countries.

Focus on Pakistan-Turkiye Railroad Connectivity

In another significant meeting, President Zardari met with Numan Kurtulmus, the speaker of the Turkish Parliament. During their discussions, Zardari urged for improved railroad links between Pakistan and Turkiye to enhance trade and economic collaboration.

The meeting, held on the sidelines of the Ashgabat forum, was attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar and Balochistan Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti. Zardari praised Turkiye as a sincere friend of Pakistan and acknowledged its strong role in supporting the Muslim world.

Humanitarian Concerns in Palestine and Lebanon

Both Zardari and Kurtulmus expressed concerns over the worsening humanitarian situation in Palestine and Lebanon. Zardari also lauded Turkiye’s progress towards becoming an economic powerhouse and extended his best wishes for the country’s future prosperity.

Later, Zardari met with Turkmen President Serdar Berdimuhamedov and reaffirmed the strong relationship between Pakistan and Turkmenistan. He also recalled his past interactions with Berdimuhamedov’s father, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow, strengthening the bond between the two nations.
