Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Chief Hafiz Naeemur Rehman called for the ongoing Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit in Islamabad to address the Palestinian issue and condemn the violence in Gaza. Speaking to the media in Faisalabad on Tuesday, Rehman emphasized that the SCO should discuss the atrocities in Gaza and collectively condemn them. He warned, “If India supports Israel, it will find itself isolated.”

Rehman highlighted that the government convened the Gaza All Parties Conference (APC) based on JI’s suggestion. He urged SCO member nations to take a firm stand on the issue. “The Palestinian cause is not just for Muslims but for humanity, and the international community must respond to the ongoing aggression in Gaza,” Rehman said.

Addressing domestic politics, Rehman affirmed that political parties, including Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), have the constitutional right to raise their concerns. He reiterated that JI had consistently raised its voice for PTI during times of political unrest and peacefully protested against electricity price hikes.

Rehman also criticized nationalist factions for their support of both the U.S. and Russia during conflicts in Afghanistan. He reaffirmed that JI has always stood by the Pashtun community and maintained its focus on Pakistan’s national interest.

Constitutional Amendments

In his remarks, Rehman urged political parties not to engage in clause-by-clause discussions of the proposed constitutional amendments. He suggested rejecting them entirely and revisiting the matter after the current Chief Justice’s term. He argued that such amendments could undermine the nation’s legal system and urged caution in handling such sensitive issues.

Rehman extended his support to Faisalabad’s traders, recognizing the city’s crucial role in Pakistan’s economy. He called for a swift resolution of their ongoing grievances and promised JI’s support in addressing their concerns. “Faisalabad is the heart of Pakistan’s textile industry, and its traders’ demands must be heard and addressed promptly,” he said.

Rehman’s comments reflected JI’s continued focus on both international and domestic issues. He positioned the party as a strong voice for justice in Gaza while also emphasizing the importance of addressing Pakistan’s economic and political challenges. His statements highlighted JI’s active role in national politics and its commitment to supporting both international causes like Palestine and local issues affecting Pakistani citizens.
