Pakistani Rupee Falls for 3rd Consecutive Day Against USDJemima Goldsmith, Imran Khan’s ex-wife, voiced concerns regarding his health and treatment in Adiala Jail. She urged for his immediate release on Tuesday, citing serious reports of mistreatment. Goldsmith took to X (formerly Twitter), highlighting that Khan had been deprived of visits from family and lawyers, and hadn’t contacted his sons since early September.
Goldsmith also emphasized that Khan’s sisters and nephew were also detained unlawfully, and his rights were being violated. She called for their release, demanding re-establishment of contact between Khan and his sons to assure them of his well-being.
Khawaja Asif’s Criticism
In response, Pakistan’s Defence Minister Khawaja Asif criticized Goldsmith’s post, reminding her of the treatment former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and his family endured under Khan’s leadership. He pointed out that Sharif was denied a phone call with his dying wife, and many opposition leaders were jailed without charges.
Meanwhile, PTI officials rejected Goldsmith’s concerns. PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan shared a medical report on Tuesday, confirming Khan’s good health. He mentioned that Khan exercised for an hour and was attended by two doctors. The report highlighted minor issues like dyspepsia and tinnitus but concluded that Khan was fit and healthy overall.

Despite these statements, Goldsmith reiterated her concerns, claiming that Khan was kept in isolation without electricity or outdoor time. She also shared her own experiences, accusing political opponents, particularly Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) supporters, of harassment and rape threats.
Khan, 72, has been dealing with over 200 legal cases since his ousting in 2022. He has been detained since August 2023 and barred from contesting elections. His family, including his sisters and nephew, has also faced legal challenges.
Goldsmith concluded her post, stating that despite her political disagreements with Khan, her plea was about his human rights and not politics. She urged the authorities to allow him contact with his sons and ensure his well-being.
