Awami National Party (ANP) leader Aimal Wali Khan launched a scathing critique of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) during a Senate session discussing the 26th Constitutional Amendment. He accused the former ruling party of opposing necessary judicial reforms.

“These amendments will ensure that judges like Saqib Nisar and Gulzar Ahmed won’t return,” Khan asserted. He emphasized the need for judges like Justice Qazi Faez Isa, known for their integrity and fairness.

Khan further remarked, “Decisions that were once made under the influence of mothers-in-law will no longer happen.” He explained that the proposed amendments aim to reinforce parliamentary supremacy and prevent future interference in judicial appointments.

He pointed out that PTI members, particularly Senator Ali Zafar, participated in committee meetings but failed to present any substantial suggestions. “We agreed on 26 points, and action must be taken against those responsible for the attacks on defense installations on May 9, regardless of our grievances with defense institutions,” he added.

Despite facing state oppression, Aimal Wali Khan stated that the ANP has never targeted defense installations. He shifted his focus to the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government, criticizing its inefficacy and accusing it of creating unnecessary drama. “If given the chance, they would shut down the entire country,” he claimed.

Khan assured that all provisions harmful to the public had been removed from the proposed amendments. His remarks underscored the ANP’s commitment to reform and accountability in Pakistan’s judicial system.
