Stray Dog Spotted at the Summit of Egypt’s Great Pyramid

A group of paragliders flying over Egypt’s Great Pyramids witnessed a surprising sight earlier this week. As they soared above the ancient structures at sunrise, they spotted an unexpected guest atop one of the pyramids — a stray dog.

Marshall Mosher, a US paraglider, was part of the group when they noticed movement at the top of Khafre, the second tallest pyramid. Initially, the adventurers mistook the figure for something more wild. “We noticed something running back and forth on top of the pyramid,” Mosher told CNN Travel. “One person thought it was a mountain lion.”

However, upon zooming in with their phones, the group quickly realized it wasn’t a wild animal, but a dog. The stray appeared to be chasing birds near the summit of the 448-foot-tall (136-meter) pyramid, which is typically off-limits to humans.

Mosher admitted he was concerned at first, wondering how the dog had gotten there. “Maybe he was stuck up there,” he thought. But his concern soon subsided as the paraglider realized the dog was likely capable of finding its way back down. “If he got himself up, he can get himself down,” he said, adding a humorous thought: “Unless he found some secret portal that helped him teleport to the top of the pyramids.”
