Changan has officially unveiled its much-anticipated electric vehicle, the Changan Lumin, at the Pakistan Auto Show 2024 (PAPS), attracting attention for its compact design and advanced EV features. Although details on its official launch and pricing are yet to be confirmed, the Lumin’s display hints at Changan’s potential plans to locally assemble the vehicle based on Pakistan’s growing EV market demand.

Compact, Comfortable, and Designed for Efficiency

The Changan Lumin is a compact, four-seater electric vehicle with a focus on efficiency and comfort. Ideal for city driving, the EV provides fabric seating for up to four passengers. For added convenience, the front passenger seat is foldable and can slide forward, improving access to the rear seats—a thoughtful design feature for tight spaces. Equipped with a rearview mirror with built-in lighting and a multifunctional electronic power steering wheel, the Lumin’s cabin has been crafted to meet modern expectations of comfort and functionality.

Technology and Connectivity

Inside, the Lumin offers technology-rich features, including a seven-inch LCD driving information display and a 10.25-inch infotainment system that supports Apple CarPlay for enhanced connectivity. This setup allows drivers and passengers to access navigation, music, and apps seamlessly. The cabin is further equipped with convenient charging options: a 12-volt power outlet and USB ports in both the front and rear, ensuring passengers can easily charge their devices on the go. The EV also includes keyless entry, push-start ignition, and a smart key, simplifying the user experience and enhancing convenience.

Key Specifications of the Changan Lumin

Battery Capacity and Range
The Changan Lumin comes with two battery options: a 27.98 kW lithium iron phosphate battery for the Lumin L and a slightly larger 28.08 kW battery for the Lumin L DC variant. The latter supports DC fast charging. Both models deliver an impressive range, offering up to 300-301 kilometers on a single charge, making it an ideal solution for urban commutes and short trips.

Motor and Power
Equipped with a permanent magnet synchronous motor, the Lumin delivers 47 horsepower and 83 Nm of torque. It features front-wheel drive, providing adequate power for city travel while maintaining energy efficiency. With a maximum speed of 101 kilometers per hour, it offers a practical balance of speed and control suitable for urban environments.

Charging Time and Efficiency
Charging the Lumin’s battery takes approximately 10.5 hours for a full charge on the standard L model. The Lumin L DC variant, however, reduces the full charge time to about 10 hours and also supports DC fast charging. With fast charging, users can go from 30-100% charge in just 35 minutes, significantly improving convenience for daily use.

Eco-Friendly Features
The Lumin features regenerative braking, which captures kinetic energy during braking and converts it back to electricity for the battery, increasing the vehicle’s efficiency. Additionally, it provides two driving modes: Eco and Sports. Eco mode prioritizes battery life, while Sports mode offers a more dynamic driving experience, catering to different driver preferences.

Local Assembly Potential

Changan representatives shared that they may locally assemble the Lumin based on demand and the development of Pakistan’s EV infrastructure. With its competitive features and promising efficiency, the Changan Lumin could soon be an accessible, environmentally-friendly option in Pakistan’s automotive market. The unveiling at PAPS 2024 has set high expectations, as Changan tests the waters of a growing EV market in Pakistan with the adaptable and technologically advanced Lumin model.
