Former Chief Justice of Pakistan Qazi Faez Isa encountered a vociferous protest led by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) supporters outside London’s Middle Temple, where he attended a high-profile event. This gathering of demonstrators, driven by claims of alleged bias against PTI, aimed to challenge the Middle Temple’s decision to honor Isa as a guest.

PTI Supporters Rally in Chancery Lane

The protest, held at Chancery Lane, saw dozens of PTI supporters rallying with placards and chanting slogans. Led by former special assistant Sayed Zulfi Bukhari and ex-member of the National Assembly Maleeka Bokhari, the crowd voiced opposition to Isa’s recognition by the Middle Temple. The venue’s entrance saw a sizable police presence, ensuring safety amid the charged atmosphere.

High-Profile Criticisms and Legal Figures Join Protest

Among the protesters was British lawyer Barrister Mark McDonald, who criticized Middle Temple’s decision to honor Isa. As a historic legal institution and one of London’s four Inns of Court, the Middle Temple is central to the British legal profession, granting qualifications and training to aspiring lawyers. It holds significant sentimental value for Isa, as both he and his father are alumni.

Recognition by Middle Temple and PTI’s Allegations

Qazi Faez Isa recently became the first Pakistani judge to be appointed as a bencher at Middle Temple. It’s a distinction that recognizes his contributions to the legal field. However, PTI leaders allege that Isa’s rulings targeted their party. In addition, they expressed their discontent with Middle Temple’s choice to honor him. Addressing the crowd, Bukhari reiterated PTI’s claims, asserting that the former CJP’s judgments were unfavorable to the Imran Khan-founded party.

This protest highlights ongoing divisions in Pakistan’s political landscape, with PTI challenging the judicial legacy of Isa. Despite these tensions, Isa’s role as a guest of Middle Temple underscores his legal achievements.
