A man tragically died amid Halloween festivities after reportedly falling onto a road and being struck by a bus in Edinburgh. The incident resulted in catastrophic injuries, and police quickly responded, closing several roads in the area to conduct an investigation. All roads have since reopened.
Police Appeal for Witnesses
Sergeant Louise Birrell of the Road Policing Unit expressed condolences, saying, “Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the man who died.” She noted that “extensive enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances of this incident.” Officers have already interviewed multiple witnesses and are reviewing CCTV footage from nearby public and private cameras.
Authorities are asking anyone with information to contact the police. “If you have any information about what happened, please get in touch,” said Sgt. Birrell, urging witnesses to call 101 and quote incident number 3395 of Saturday, 2 November 2024.

As distressing images and videos of the incident began circulating online, Chief Inspector Trisha Clark, local area commander, urged the public not to share these out of respect for the deceased’s family. “We are aware of videos and images on social media which are causing distress to the family and those viewing them inadvertently,” she said. Clark emphasized that anyone encountering such material should report it to the respective social media platform to prevent further distribution.

Incident Sparks Community Concerns
The incident occurred amid Halloween festivities, with the area crowded with revelers. Police reported that nearby venues were asked to shut down immediately following the tragic event. One witness who had been at the Supercube karaoke bar described being evacuated by police after the horrific discovery.
“We were told a serious incident had taken place but weren’t given more details,” the witness recounted. “Someone said the bouncer had a photo showing a human head just meters from the bar entrance.” Emergency responders arrived on the scene with ambulances, police vans, and sniffer dogs, setting up a tent and cordoning off the area for investigation.
Investigation Underway, Public Assured of Safety
Chief Inspector Clark reassured the local community that this was an isolated incident with no threat to public safety. “This was a tragic accident. We are investigating a crash, and our road policing officers, along with local officers, are continuing enquiries,” she stated. Clark added that speculation on social media should be avoided, emphasizing that verified information would come directly from official channels.
