Punjab Police successfully rescued Intezar Hussain Panjutha, lawyer of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan, after a shootout with alleged kidnappers in Hassan Abdal. The rescue took place late Saturday night during a police operation.

Police Intercept Suspicious Vehicle

The operation began when Attock police officers stopped a suspicious vehicle during a routine check. According to a police spokesperson, the vehicle was occupied by a “gang of kidnappers” with an unidentified man tied up inside.

Upon being intercepted, the kidnappers opened fire on the police. Police returned fire, causing the kidnappers to flee the scene, abandoning the vehicle with the abducted man still inside.

Lawyer Intezar Hussain Panjutha Rescued

The police safely recovered the abductee, who was later identified as Intezar Hussain Panjutha, PTI founder Imran Khan’s lawyer. Panjutha was taken to a hospital for medical treatment, where he shared details of his ordeal.

Panjutha revealed that he had been kidnapped from Islamabad on October 8, with the abductors demanding a ransom of Rs20 million. He described severe torture during his captivity and said he was kept tied up until Saturday evening.

Victim’s Ordeal During Captivity

During medical examination, Panjutha recounted his experience, saying, “The abductors communicated in Pashto, and I couldn’t understand their conversations. They kept moving me around for three to four hours.” Panjutha added that he had no idea where he was taken or the distances traveled.

Investigation Underway

Police have launched an investigation to identify the kidnappers. The operation and Panjutha’s safe recovery have drawn attention to law enforcement’s efforts in addressing high-profile cases in the region.

IHC Case and Government Assurances

Panjutha’s disappearance was under investigation by the Islamabad High Court (IHC) since October 8. During a recent hearing, Attorney General of Pakistan Mansoor Usman Awan assured IHC Chief Justice Aamer Farooq that Panjutha would be found soon.

Chief Justice Farooq responded that if Panjutha was recovered, there would be no need for additional hearings. However, if he was not found, the Attorney General would need to return for the next session.
