KARACHI: Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon has identified drugs as a significant challenge facing society today. He highlighted that drug trafficking is increasing across Pakistan, and drug use is becoming a disturbing trend. Cocaine addiction, in particular, is viewed as a status symbol among the elite.

Memon spoke during a discussion about an attention notice in the Sindh Assembly. He expressed concern over the rise of various drugs, including cocaine, marijuana, heroin, ice, and crystal meth. “These substances pose the biggest challenges to our community right now,” he stated. The minister emphasized that addressing these issues requires immediate action from all sectors of society.

Legislative Action

During his address, Memon praised the Sindh Assembly for passing an anti-narcotics bill by consensus. He noted that both government and opposition members showed serious commitment whenever drug-related issues were discussed. This collaborative effort is essential in combating the drug crisis. “We must all work together to combat the scourge of drugs,” he urged.

Call for Media Involvement

Memon also called on crime and beat reporters from television channels to help identify drug-related issues in society. He stressed the importance of media involvement in raising awareness and pushing for action against drug trafficking. “We will take action against drug issues, but we need your help,” he said. He encouraged Members of the Provincial Assembly (MPAs) to also actively participate in identifying and reporting drug-related problems.

The prevalent attitude of complacency towards drug problems. “We have developed a mindset of letting things pass,” Memon remarked. He urged everyone to change this attitude and take a firm stand against wrongdoing. “It is time to act decisively wherever we see issues,” he insisted.

He firmly believes that collaboration among authorities, media, and members of the assembly can lead to significant progress. “If we unite our efforts, we can end drug-related issues within a month,” he asserted.
