Prashanth Neel Apologizes to Shah Rukh Khan
Salaar vs. Dunki Christmas Release Clash
Prashanth Neel, the director of KGF and KGF 2, recently apologized to Shah Rukh Khan and Rajkumar Hirani for scheduling the release of Salaar on the same date as Dunki. The clash is set for Christmas 2023, a slot that Dunki had reserved well in advance. Neel explained that the decision to release Salaar on the same day was not intentional.
“That was the only date we had,” Neel confessed, emphasizing that Dunki‘s release date had been announced first. “We apologize to Dunki‘s team. They announced the date a year ago, so apologies from the entire Salaar team,” he told CNN News18.
Astrology Influenced the Release Date Decision
Neel further explained that the decision to choose the Christmas slot was influenced by astrological factors. “We didn’t want a situation like this. Shah Rukh sir and Rajkumar sir are legends. But it happened only due to astrology,” he added. The situation led to frustration among fans of both Shah Rukh Khan and Prabhas, but the makers have since moved past it.

Box Office Success for Both Films
Despite the initial controversy, Salaar and Dunki have become box office hits worldwide. The global success of both films has reassured fans and critics alike. Neel’s apology reflects his respect for the legacy of Shah Rukh Khan and Hirani, recognizing their influence in the industry.
Critical Acclaim for Salaar
Salaar has earned high praise from critics. Firstpost awarded the film 3.5 stars, noting its strong narrative and commercial appeal. The review highlighted Neel’s storytelling, which emphasizes heroism, rugged characters, and a layered plot exploring themes of betrayal, loyalty, and leadership. “The editing is crisp and sharp, giving the film an emotional depth that leaves audiences with a powerful experience,” the review stated.
However, the film’s tone and style bear a resemblance to the KGF franchise, which also showcased gritty backdrops and raw villainy. Additionally, Prabhas’ on-screen persona in certain scenes brings to mind his role in Baahubali. Some sequences in Salaar even have a Game of Thrones-like ambiance, adding a unique aesthetic appeal to the movie’s narrative.
Audience Reactions and Future Projects
With the release date clash resolved, fans of both Salaar and Dunki can enjoy each film without further tension. Prashanth Neel’s acknowledgment of the misstep and his admiration for Shah Rukh Khan and Rajkumar Hirani underscore his respect for the industry’s leading figures. Both Salaar and Dunki are expected to continue their successful run, making this a memorable holiday season for fans.
