Authorities in Karachi have launched the ‘DL Mobile Van’ service to issue driving licenses on the go. DIG Driving License, Iqbal Dara, announced this initiative, which allows residents to get licenses without visiting an office.
Dara stated that the mobile van issues learner permits, renewals, and non-commercial licenses. This van is part of Karachi’s efforts to improve licensing services. Work on another van is underway, promising wider reach across the city. Companies and institutions can request the van for on-site services, giving easy access to licensing for employees and members.
Driving License Department Expands Services Across Sindh
In early 2024, Sindh’s Driving License Department launched services to help more residents get licenses legally. These licenses cover motorcycles, cars, Light Transport Vehicles (LTV), and Heavy Transport Vehicles (HTV). Each license is issued only after applicants pass tests on driving laws, ethics, and road safety.
By offering different license types, the department aims to uphold safety standards and ensure all drivers are ready for the road.

Updated LTV License Fees Announced
The department recently updated fees for LTV licenses in Karachi and Hyderabad, effective from March 2024. A three-year LTV license now costs Rs960, while a five-year license is Rs1,260. Learner licenses for LTV vehicles cost Rs100. The revised fees aim to keep licenses affordable, especially for longer-validity options.
New Services Boost Accessibility and Safety
With the DL Mobile Van and other upgrades, Karachi authorities are making licensing easier and safer. The mobile van allows residents to get services at their doorstep, a convenience for the city’s busy people. The Driving License Department aims to improve road safety by ensuring all licensed drivers know road laws and safe driving practices.
Simplified Licensing Process Gains Support
The DL branch, online system, and now the mobile van all aim to simplify and speed up the licensing process. By bringing services directly to communities, authorities are reducing crowding at licensing offices and making essential services more accessible.
Positive Response Expected from Karachi Residents
The DL Mobile Van service is expected to be well-received, as it offers residents easy, flexible access. With the option to call the van to workplaces, institutions, or residential areas, this service is set to meet Karachi’s growing licensing needs. This move is part of Karachi’s broader goal to modernize public services and enhance road safety for its citizens.
