Top PTI leaders, including Omar Ayub Khan and Shibli Faraz, faced brief detention outside Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi on Tuesday for allegedly violating Section 144. Authorities cited the prohibition of gatherings as the reason, but the leaders were released shortly after being warned.
The PTI condemned the detentions, calling it an “assault on political freedoms.” Though, the leaders said they had gathered peacefully to meet their imprisoned leader, Imran Khan, as allowed by law. PTI representatives voiced outrage, labeling the incident as a misuse of power aimed at suppressing opposition voices.

Since Imran Khan’s incarceration, PTI members have frequently faced arrests. Party supporters across Punjab have been detained in recent protests, leading PTI leaders to call for “peaceful protest” against the government’s actions. Key figures, including Imran’s relatives, have also faced arrests, highlighting the party’s repeated clashes with authorities.
In a press conference, Faraz criticized the manner in which leaders were handled, claiming it disrespected Pakistan’s Constitution. Furthermore, as the party continues to face crackdowns, it remains vocal about defending political freedoms and has demanded the immediate release of its leader and fair treatment under the law.
