Traffic Disruptions on Shahrah-e-Faisal for IDEAS 2024

Share the latest news updates

As part of the security measures for the 12th International Defence Exhibition and Seminar (IDEAS) 2024, Karachi has announced significant traffic restrictions on Shahrah-e-Faisal. These changes, which will take effect from 2:00 AM to 5:00 AM on Sunday, aim to ensure safety and smooth operations during the high-profile event.

Traffic Closures and Diversions

Shahrah-e-Faisal will be closed for traffic at various points during the specified hours. The stretch from Drigh Road to Karasaz will be completely blocked, with no traffic allowed in either direction. Moreover, the route from Karasaz to Hassan Square and Habib Ibrahim Rahimtoola Road will also be closed off.

Airport-bound traffic will be diverted from Drigh Road to Rashid Minhas Road, heading towards NIPA via Millennium Mall. Meanwhile, vehicles coming from FTC and Nursery areas will not be allowed to travel towards Karasaz or the airport. Instead, they are instructed to use Shaheed-e-Millat Road from Baloch Colony Bridge.

Alternative Routes and Key Instructions

The traffic management plan includes a detailed set of alternative routes for commuters. Traffic from Jail Chowrangi can take Hassan Square, NIPA, and Rashid Minhas Road. University Road traffic, which would normally proceed towards Expo Center or Stadium Road, will instead be redirected to alternative roads such as Jail Chowrangi, Peoples Chowrangi, or Shaheed-e-Millat Road.

IDEAS 2024 Traffic Plan

A more comprehensive traffic plan is set for the IDEAS 2024 exhibition, running from November 19 to 22 at the Expo Centre. Several roads surrounding the Expo Centre will be closed from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM, including key stretches from Hassan Square Flyover to National Stadium Road and flyovers along Stadium Road. Additionally, the left turn from University Road’s Nipa intersection to Expo Centre will be restricted.

Commercial and heavy vehicles will be diverted to alternate routes, preventing them from accessing Stadium Road from Rashid Minhas Road. These vehicles will instead be redirected to Drigh Road, while using Shaheed-e-Millat Road and Teen Hatti Road as viable options.

Ensuring Smooth Traffic Flow

Traffic authorities have designated several diversion points, including PP Chowrangi to Shaheed-e-Millat Road and Liqatabad No. 10 to Teen Hatti, to better manage the flow of vehicles. The authorities have requested the cooperation of all citizens to facilitate smooth traffic during this critical period.

Exemptions for Participants

Exemptions from the restrictions will be granted to authorized participants and organizers of IDEAS 2024. The traffic plan aims to minimize disruptions and ensure a seamless experience for attendees and the general public alike.

The citizens of Karachi are encouraged to stay updated on traffic advisories and follow alternative routes to avoid delays and inconveniences.
