US Warns Turkey on Hosting Hamas Leaders
The United States issued a stern warning on Monday to countries hosting Hamas Leaders. The State Department specifically addressed Turkey after reports suggested that Hamas leadership might be relocating there.
State Department spokesman Matthew Miller acknowledged these reports during a press briefing. “I’ve seen the reports that some of the leadership of Hamas, who had been in Doha, have now moved to Turkey,” he stated.
Although Miller did not confirm the reports, he noted, “I’m not in a position to dispute them.”
Clear Stance on Hamas
Miller emphasized the U.S. position against countries offering sanctuary to Hamas leaders. “We will make clear to the government of Turkey, as we have made clear to every country in the world, that there can be no more business as usual with Hamas,” he said.
He stressed that Hamas leaders, considered part of a “vicious terrorist organization,” should not live comfortably anywhere. Miller added that several leaders face indictments in the United States and should be handed over to authorities.

Qatar’s Role in Mediation
For years, Qatar has been a significant mediator in the Gaza conflict. The Gulf state has hosted Hamas leadership in its capital, Doha, for over a decade.
Ismael Haniyeh, the former head of Hamas, resided in Qatar before his death on July 31 during a visit to Tehran. His assassination, widely attributed to Israel, underscored the volatile regional dynamics.
Ceasefire Mediation Halted
Qatar recently paused its mediation efforts between Israel and Hamas. These efforts aimed to secure a ceasefire in Gaza and facilitate the release of hostages.
Since Hamas’s attack on Israel on October 7, 2023, Qatar, along with the United States and Egypt, has played a crucial role in diplomatic negotiations. The war in Gaza has since escalated, complicating efforts for peace.
The United States continues to push its allies to isolate Hamas. The Biden administration has urged nations to align with its stance, emphasizing that hosting Hamas leaders undermines global counterterrorism efforts.
