Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) has reported its sixth case of the mpox virus, previously known as monkeypox. Adviser to Chief Minister on Health Ehtesham Ali confirmed the case in Lakki Marwat’s Kot Kashmir union council. The patient is a 35-year-old man who recently returned from Dubai.

The patient landed at Peshawar Airport on Thursday via Flight PK 284. After arrival, he was sent directly to Khyber Teaching Hospital for examination. The health adviser stated that the man had been working as a driver in Dubai for five years.

Symptoms and Testing

Doctors at the hospital identified symptoms of mpox, including flu-like signs and pus-filled lesions. The patient’s samples were sent to the Public Health Reference Lab, which confirmed the diagnosis.

The health department has informed the patient about treatment and preventive steps, including social distancing. The district health officer’s team is monitoring the patient to ensure proper care and containment.

Active Case and Recovery Status

Currently, there is only one active mpox case in KP. The previous five patients have recovered fully, according to health officials.

Pakistan U-19 Triumphs Over India by 43 Runs

The World Health Organization (WHO) declared mpox a public health emergency in August due to the spread of the Clade 1b variant. This new variant spreads easily through close contact, raising global alarm. However, WHO reassured that mpox is not another Covid-19 since the virus and control measures are well understood.

Background of Mpox Virus

Mpox presents with flu-like symptoms and skin lesions. It is usually mild but can lead to severe complications for children, pregnant women, and those with weak immune systems. Early detection and preventive measures are key to managing the disease.

Fifth Case Confirmed in September

KP reported its fifth mpox case on September 11 in Peshawar. Health Minister Qasim Ali Shah confirmed the diagnosis at the time.

Officials have urged the public to maintain hygiene and seek medical advice if symptoms appear. The health department remains vigilant to prevent further spread of the virus.
