Karachi: The Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) has discovered gas and condensate reserves in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The discovery was made at the Betani-02 (Sulent) well in Lakki Marwat district.
OGDCL informed the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) about the discovery on Friday. The company stated it operates the Wali Exploration License with a 100% working interest. Officials expressed satisfaction over this significant development in the region.
Details of the Discovery
The Betani-02 well was drilled as an appraisal well. It reached a depth of 5,080 meters in the Shinwari Formation. During drilling, OGDCL encountered a 247-meter thick Samanasuk Formation. This led to the discovery of hydrocarbons.

Gas and Condensate Flow
The company conducted Cased Hole DST-1 testing at the well. The well flowed gas at a rate of 2.14 million standard cubic feet per day (MMSCFD). It also produced condensate at a rate of 74 barrels per day (BCPD). The testing was done using a 32/64-inch choke. The wellhead pressure recorded was 435 PSI.
First Discovery in Samanasuk Formation
OGDCL confirmed this as the first hydrocarbon discovery in the Samanasuk Formation. The discovery falls under the Wali Exploration License. This success reflects the company’s focus on exploring and developing Pakistan’s hydrocarbon resources.
