The National Assembly of Pakistan unanimously passed a resolution today to commemorate December 16 as a Day of Remembrance for the martyrs of the Army Public School (APS) and all victims of terrorism. This declaration honors the sacrifices made in the fight against terrorism, particularly the lives lost in the tragic APS Peshawar attack of 2014.
Commitment to a Terror-Free Pakistan
The National Assembly reaffirmed its commitment to eliminating terrorism in all forms. It emphasized the need for unified efforts to combat extremism and safeguard the nation’s security and development. The House also called for strengthening anti-terrorism laws, improving intelligence sharing, and ensuring justice for victims of terrorism.
The resolution urged the government to enhance the security of educational institutions, ensuring schools remain safe havens for children.
A Call for National Unity
The resolution stressed the importance of collective efforts by the government, political parties, civil society, and citizens to build a peaceful and secure Pakistan. It called for unity to ensure that terrorism never threatens the nation’s future again.

Progress in Railways and Digital Transformation
In other discussions, the Parliamentary Secretary for Railways, Muhammad Usman Awaisi, informed the House of Pakistan Railways’ record earnings of 87.5 billion rupees in the last fiscal year. He attributed this achievement to financial restructuring, reduced operational costs, and improved efficiency.
Additionally, new high-capacity freight wagons and passenger coaches will be introduced to boost revenue.
Meanwhile, the Digital Nation Pakistan Bill, 2024, aimed at transforming the country into a digital society, was introduced by Minister of State for Information Technology, Shaza Fatima Khawaja. The bill focuses on enabling digital governance, a digital economy, and advancing technology in Pakistan.
PIA and 5G Developments
The House was also informed of progress on PIA’s flight operations. Minister for Aviation Khawaja Muhammad Asif expressed optimism about resuming flights to the UK, with efforts already restoring routes to European Union countries.
