“No political leader’s ambition for power should overshadow Pakistan’s national interests,” declared the Pakistan Army spokesperson, Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry, during a press conference in Islamabad. Addressing key national issues, he emphasized the army’s commitment to Pakistan’s stability and its apolitical stance in navigating political turmoil.
Accountability for May 9 Events
Lieutenant General Chaudhry highlighted the significance of the May 9 incidents, labeling them as a case of public concern rather than a military issue. He dismissed allegations of conspiracy, reaffirming that those responsible for the violence have been held accountable under military laws.
“This was not an act orchestrated by state agencies. The legal framework has been strictly followed, ensuring justice,” he stated. The military courts have sentenced 85 individuals involved, a process upheld by the Supreme Court’s rulings. Chaudhry reiterated that such actions are essential to safeguard national interests and uphold public trust.
Political Neutrality and Professionalism
The spokesperson underscored the army’s impartiality, maintaining professional relations with all political entities. He clarified that the Pakistan Army does not engage in political maneuvering or favoritism. “The military answers solely to the state of Pakistan,” Chaudhry affirmed, adding that officers prioritizing personal or political agendas are subject to strict accountability measures.
He encouraged political leaders to resolve their disputes through dialogue, urging them to avoid divisive narratives. “Confrontation weakens the nation; unity strengthens it,” he said, advocating for a cooperative approach to address pressing issues.

Achievements in Counter-Terrorism
Pakistan’s security forces achieved remarkable success against terrorism in 2024. The ISPR DG revealed that 925 terrorists were eliminated in 59,775 intelligence-based operations, marking the highest number in five years. Among those killed were 27 Afghan militants and 73 high-profile targets, including the leader of Fitna al Khawarij in Malakand.
These operations resulted in significant sacrifices, with 383 security personnel martyred in the line of duty. “The war against terrorism will continue until its complete eradication,” Chaudhry vowed, emphasizing Pakistan’s commitment to national security.
Border Security and Regional Stability
Addressing regional concerns, Chaudhry noted the return of 815,000 illegal Afghan refugees over the past year and ongoing efforts to secure Pakistan’s borders. He highlighted the threat of terrorism originating from Afghan soil and stressed the importance of Afghanistan refraining from harboring foreign fighters.
Despite challenges, Pakistan has engaged in dialogue with Afghanistan through friendly nations, promoting regional peace. The spokesperson also commended progress in combating smuggling, which has strengthened border security and economic stability.
Support for Kashmir and Response to Indian Aggression
Chaudhry condemned India’s human rights violations in occupied Kashmir, vowing to support Kashmiris’ struggle for freedom through legal, diplomatic, and moral channels. He also noted 25 ceasefire violations by Indian forces along Pakistan’s eastern border, reaffirming the army’s readiness to respond decisively to any aggression.
“The Pakistan Army remains resolute in defending national integrity and standing with oppressed communities,” he declared.
Focus on Development and Governance
The ISPR DG emphasized the importance of good governance, especially in regions like Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan. He outlined the military’s contributions to infrastructure, education, and security, including the initiation of 6,500 education programs and progress on the Kachhi Canal project.
As Pakistan navigates complex challenges, the army remains committed to protecting the nation’s sovereignty and fostering unity among its people.
