Jimmy Carter, the 39th president of the United States, has passed away at the age of 100. The former president died in hospice care after battling cancer and other health challenges. He celebrated his centenary just two months ago.
Carter, known for his promise never to lie to the American people, rose to power in the aftermath of the Watergate scandal. His administration marked significant moments, such as the pardon of Vietnam War draft evaders and his strong stance on climate change. He also brokered the Camp David Accords, bringing peace between Egypt and Israel.
Challenges in Office
Carter’s presidency was marred by economic struggles, the Iran hostage crisis, and the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan. Despite his efforts to free American hostages in Tehran, a failed rescue mission deeply impacted his approval ratings. These challenges contributed to his defeat by Ronald Reagan in the 1980 election.

Post-Presidency Transformation
After leaving the White House, Carter rebuilt his reputation. He became a global advocate for peace, human rights, and environmental causes. In 2002, he received the Nobel Peace Prize for his humanitarian efforts. Carter also co-founded The Elders, a group of leaders working to promote justice and human rights worldwide.
Simple Life in Georgia
Carter returned to his hometown of Plains, Georgia, after his presidency. He lived modestly, shunning wealth and fame. He continued teaching Sunday school and worked with Habitat for Humanity, helping build thousands of homes for those in need.
Tributes Pour In
World leaders and citizens have praised Carter’s dedication to public service. President Joe Biden called him “a tireless advocate for humanity.” Former President Barack Obama said, “Carter showed us the true meaning of leadership and humility.”
Carter’s passing follows the death of his wife, Rosalynn, in 2023. He had described her as his “equal partner in everything.” The couple was married for 77 years and leaves behind a legacy of service and compassion.
