Karachi police took decisive action on Tuesday to clear roads blocked by the Majlis Wahdat-e-Muslimeen (MWM). The sit-ins, now in their eighth consecutive day, severely disrupted city life and drew criticism from authorities.
Tensions flared at Numaish Chowrangi as protesters resisted police efforts to disperse them. Demonstrators pelted stones, set fire to six motorcycles, and torched a police check post. Police responded with tear gas and baton charges, dismantling the MWM’s central camp and detaining several protesters.
Sindh CM Vows Legal Action
Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah condemned the violence and property damage. He assured strict legal action against those involved. “Protests must not harm public or private property,” he stated, reaffirming the government’s stance against unlawful actions.

Police and Rangers negotiated with protesters, but tensions remained high. Some areas, like Five Star Chowrangi and Ancholi, saw protests end, while others continued to block critical routes.

Government’s Call for Peaceful Protests
The Sindh CM criticized MWM leaders for not limiting their demonstrations to one location, as previously agreed. “We are committed to addressing the crisis, but not at the expense of Karachi residents’ daily lives,” he said. Relief goods were sent to Parachinar, though Shah emphasized that the issue must be resolved in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
PPP Expresses Solidarity with Protesters
On Monday, PPP leaders met with MWM representatives to address the situation. Saeed Ghani expressed condolences to victims of the Parachinar tragedy and acknowledged the resilience of women and children participating in the protests. However, he urged organizers to avoid disrupting public life.
Increased Security Across Karachi
Karachi police deployed additional personnel to secure protest sites and prevent further clashes. Authorities continue to engage in negotiations with sit-in organizers while preparing for administrative action to restore order.
Parachinar Crisis: The Core Issue
The crisis in Parachinar, located in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Kurram district, remains the root of the protests. Recent clashes have claimed over 130 lives, while highway closures have created severe shortages of medicine and oxygen. The humanitarian crisis continues to escalate.
