A blast targeted a passenger bus in Balochistan’s Turbat on Saturday, leaving four people dead and 32 injured. Police confirmed the incident occurred in the New Bahman area. The bus was en route from Karachi to Turbat when the explosion struck.

Rabia Tariq, spokesperson for the Balochistan inspector general of police’s office, confirmed the death toll. She stated that the nature of the blast is under investigation. A detailed report will follow after further inquiry. Security forces and police quickly reached the site and cordoned off the area.

The injured were taken to a nearby hospital. Officials revealed that five victims are in critical condition. Arrangements are being made to transfer them to medical facilities in other cities for advanced treatment.

Senior Police Officer Among the Injured

Quetta SSP Zohaib Mohsin, traveling with his family, was caught in the explosion. Mohsin sustained minor injuries, along with four members of his family. Balochistan government spokesperson Shahid Rind confirmed this in a statement.

The authorities plan to send the deceased’s bodies to their hometowns after completing necessary formalities. The government assured medical assistance for all injured victims.

The Balochistan Liberation Army, a banned militant group, claimed responsibility for the attack. Officials are conducting further investigations to confirm their involvement.

Prime Minister Condemns Attack

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif condemned the attack and expressed sorrow for the loss of lives. He stated, “Terrorists will not succeed in their nefarious purposes. The government and security forces remain committed to eliminating terrorism.”

Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti expressed deep sorrow over the incident. He said, “Those who target innocents do not deserve to be called human beings.” He offered prayers for the deceased and wished the injured a speedy recovery.

This is the latest in a series of terror attacks in Balochistan. Earlier this week, a bomb attack targeted a gas company vehicle in Qila Saifullah, injuring one person. Police revealed that terrorists had aimed to attack the Oil and Gas Development Corporation Limited camp.

A Surge in Terrorism in 2024

Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa witnessed a sharp rise in terrorism in 2024. Last year, a suicide bombing at Quetta Railway Station killed 26 and injured 62.

In 2024, Pakistan recorded 444 terror attacks, claiming 1,612 lives, including 685 security personnel. The death toll represents a 73% increase from the previous year. Security forces remain on high alert to counter the growing threat.

Despite the challenges, authorities vowed to combat terrorism. Efforts to protect civilians and eliminate extremist groups continue across the country.
