Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has announced January 11 as the inauguration date for the first segment of the Malir Expressway. The segment connects Korangi Causeway to Shah Faisal Colony. He made this decision during a high-level meeting at the New Sindh Secretariat. The meeting was attended by Local Government Minister Saeed Ghani, Chief Secretary Asif Hyder Shah, Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab, and other key officials.

The CM reviewed the project’s progress and stressed the need for timely completion. A toll plaza will regulate traffic on the expressway. Cars and jeeps will be charged Rs100, while heavy vehicles will pay Rs200. Only commercial vehicles, cars, jeeps, and buses will be allowed. Motorcycles and rickshaws are prohibited.

Key Features of the First Segment

The first segment of the expressway includes a ramp to facilitate traffic flow. A connecting flyover from Korangi will be completed in two months. The Jam Sadiq Interchange and road rehabilitation at EBM and Shah Faisal Interchanges are progressing. Encroachments at Quaidabad Interchange have been removed, and construction continues to improve connectivity.

The 40-kilometre expressway links Korangi Creek Avenue to the M-9 Motorway near Kathore. This connection is expected to significantly reduce travel time for commuters. The CM directed officials to address operational challenges promptly to ensure smooth traffic flow.

Traffic Management and Safety Measures

Law enforcement agencies will deploy district and traffic police at key entry and exit points. These include the Jam Sadiq, EBM, and Shah Faisal interchanges. Dedicated traffic police will patrol both sides of the expressway to manage traffic.

The stretch from Shah Faisal Interchange to Shah Faisal Colony Bridge has been declared a no-parking zone. Traffic police vehicles will ensure continuous monitoring to prevent disruptions. The CM emphasized efficient traffic management and urged officials to resolve any issues quickly.

The Malir Expressway aims to provide a critical link for Karachi’s commuters, improving connectivity and easing traffic congestion.
