OpenAI CEO Sam Altman Denies Sister’s Allegations
Annie Altman accused him of childhood sexual abuse.
SAN FRANCISCO: OpenAI CEO Sam Altman has denied serious allegations made by his sister, Annie Altman, who filed a complaint accusing him of childhood sexual abuse. In a statement published on social media platform X, Sam, along with his mother and two brothers, called the allegations “deeply hurtful and entirely untrue.” The family expressed concern for Annie’s well-being, highlighting the emotional challenges of supporting a loved one facing mental health difficulties.
Family Support and Tensions Revealed
The Altman family shared that they have provided continuous financial support to Annie, including covering her living expenses and guaranteeing “monthly financial support” for the rest of her life. Despite their assistance, they noted that Annie continued to demand more financial help. They said they decided to make their response public after years of tension and following her legal complaint filed on Monday. The family emphasized that they have always tried to help Annie and maintain a supportive relationship with her.

Allegations Evolve Over Time
According to the legal complaint, Annie Altman alleges that Sam sexually abused her between 1997, when she was three years old, and 2006. Sam Altman, however, categorically denied the allegations, stating that they were “utterly untrue.” The Altman family pointed out that Annie’s claims have evolved over time and now include incidents involving Sam when he was over 18 years old. They called these latest accusations a drastic shift from earlier claims.
Annie Altman, who is nine years younger than Sam, was described in a 2023 report by New York Magazine as an artist struggling with depression and a strained relationship with her family. The report also mentioned that she supported herself through online sex work. The Altman family’s public statement was made in response to these evolving allegations and the ongoing legal proceedings.
