Additionally, the laws extend the age limit for child custody, making provisions more favorable for parents.
Non-Muslim Mothers Granted Custody Rights
A major update in the new laws is that non-Muslim mothers will now have the right to custody of their children. This is a significant change, providing equal rights to all mothers, regardless of religion. Children aged 15 years will also be granted the right to decide which parent they want to live with, ensuring that their wishes are respected.
The UAE’s new family laws will take effect in April 2025. The government hopes the changes will provide greater fairness and protection for all families in the country.
