An explosion targeting a passenger bus traveling from Khuzdar to Rawalpindi has left one person dead and seven others injured, raising concerns about the rising threat of terrorism in Balochistan. The incident occurred on Sunday along the M-8 Highway near Khori, approximately 25 kilometers from Khuzdar City.
The Attack and Immediate Response
The passenger bus was en route to Rawalpindi when the blast struck. According to Khuzdar District Commissioner Yasir Iqbal Dashti, the injured included the bus conductor, who is in critical condition. All victims were rushed to the Khuzdar Trauma Centre for emergency treatment.
Preliminary investigations revealed that an improvised explosive device (IED) had been planted in an Alto vehicle parked near the road. Security forces, including police, Frontier Corps, and Levies personnel, swiftly reached the scene, cordoned off the area, and began a detailed investigation.
A Troubling Pattern
While no group has claimed responsibility for this attack, it is part of a troubling trend of increasing terrorism in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Earlier this month, a similar incident claimed four lives and injured 32 people when a blast targeted a bus in Turbat.
In another attack, three civilians sustained injuries after an IED detonated near a truck carrying Frontier Corps personnel in Chaman. These incidents point to a worrying escalation in violence targeting civilians and security forces.

Past Incidents in the Region
Khuzdar has experienced its share of tragic events in recent months. In October, a bomb blast in the Zehri tehsil injured a PPP leader and killed his son and a Levies Force official. In November, a devastating suicide bombing at Quetta Railway Station killed 26 people and injured 62 others.
These incidents underline the persistent security challenges in the region, where terrorist groups have increasingly targeted public transport, civilian gatherings, and security forces.
Security Forces Step Up Efforts
In response to these growing threats, security forces have intensified operations to combat terrorism. Law enforcement agencies continue to investigate the recent blast and monitor high-risk areas. While authorities work to prevent further incidents, the rise in attacks has created a climate of fear among residents.
A Call for Vigilance
The explosion near Khuzdar serves as a grim reminder of the need for heightened vigilance and coordinated efforts to address terrorism. Security measures must be strengthened, and intelligence-sharing between agencies is essential to protect civilians and maintain stability in the region.
As investigations into the Khori blast continue, local authorities have urged the public to remain alert and report suspicious activities. Meanwhile, the victims of this attack remind the nation of the heavy toll of terrorism and the urgent need to eliminate this menace.
