In a significant blow to terrorism, security forces in Pakistan eliminated 30 terrorists in three counter-terrorism operations in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), according to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR). The operations, conducted in Lakki Marwat, Karak, and Khyber districts, targeted key hideouts of terrorists actively involved in violent activities against security forces and civilians.

Lakki Marwat Operation: 18 Terrorists Killed

The largest operation took place in Lakki Marwat district. Acting on intelligence, security forces engaged a heavily armed group of militants. According to the ISPR, 18 terrorists, referred to as “khwarij,” were killed, and six others sustained injuries during the encounter. Weapons and ammunition were recovered from the site.

Karak: Eight Militants Neutralized

In a separate operation in Karak, security forces successfully neutralized eight terrorists. The ISPR reported that the operation was swift and effectively dismantled a group involved in numerous acts of terrorism in the region.

Khyber District: Ring Leaders Eliminated

The third operation unfolded in the Bagh area of Khyber district, where four terrorists, including ring leaders Aziz ur Rehman (also known as Qari Ismail) and Mukhlis, were killed. Two others were injured during the encounter. The ISPR emphasized that these individuals were instrumental in orchestrating attacks on security forces and the killing of civilians.

Weapons Recovered and Ongoing Sanitization Efforts

The operations also led to the recovery of substantial amounts of weapons and ammunition. Following the engagements, sanitization operations commenced to ensure the complete elimination of terrorist elements in the region. The military reiterated its commitment to eradicating terrorism and maintaining peace in the country.

Leadership Commends Security Forces

President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif lauded the bravery and dedication of the security forces. President Zardari described the operations as a significant step toward eliminating terrorism, while PM Shehbaz reaffirmed the nation’s unwavering support for the armed forces.

A Surge in Violence and the Road Ahead

These operations come amid a surge in violent incidents in Pakistan, particularly in KP and Balochistan. Since the Taliban’s return to power in Afghanistan in 2021, the region has witnessed increased cross-border militancy.

According to the “CRSS Annual Security Report 2024,” the year marked a grim milestone for Pakistan, with 2,546 fatalities and 2,267 injuries resulting from 1,166 incidents of terror attacks and counter-terror operations. KP bore the brunt of the violence, recording 1,616 fatalities, followed by Balochistan with 782 deaths.

The report highlighted 2024 as the deadliest year in a decade, with a 66% rise in fatalities compared to 2023. On average, seven lives were lost daily, with November being the deadliest month.

Strengthened Resolve

The recent successful operations underscore the resolve of Pakistan’s security forces to combat terrorism. While the challenges remain significant, these actions demonstrate a proactive approach to restoring stability and ensuring the safety of civilians. The fight against terrorism continues as the nation stands united with its armed forces.
