NVIDIA RTX 50 Series GPUs Sell Out in Minutes on Newegg
Massive demand leaves gamers scrambling as retailers promise restocks.
Unprecedented Demand for RTX 50 Series
The launch of NVIDIA RTX 50 Series GPUs sparked a buying frenzy, with online retailer Newegg selling out “within minutes.” The RTX 5080 and RTX 5090 graphics cards, anticipated for their cutting-edge performance, saw record demand as eager buyers flooded the site.
Newegg’s VP of Product Management, Jim Tseng, described the launch as “extraordinary,” highlighting the gaming community’s enthusiasm for top-tier hardware. “Our team is working closely with NVIDIA and AIB partners to secure additional stock,” he assured. Newegg also promoted its GPU trade-in program, allowing customers to upgrade at a lower cost.
Newegg Sells Out in 20 Minutes
The retailer revealed that its entire RTX 50 Series inventory was gone in just 20 minutes. Website traffic skyrocketed, increasing 8 to 10 times the normal volume. Nine of the top ten site searches were related to RTX GPUs, and these products dominated the site’s most-visited pages.
While Newegg benefited from the surge in traffic, customers expressed frustration over limited availability. Many turned to resale sites, where scalpers listed RTX 5090 cards for over $6,000—more than double the retail price.

NVIDIA Responds to Stock Shortages
To address concerns, NVIDIA issued a statement acknowledging the high demand. A company representative reassured customers, stating, “We expect strong demand for the RTX 5090 and 5080, and some stock-outs are inevitable. However, NVIDIA and our partners are continuously shipping more units to retailers to get GPUs into gamers’ hands.”
Manufacturers Warned of Shortages
Even before launch, industry experts had warned of potential shortages. GPU manufacturer MSI pointed to factors like high demand and supply chain disruptions, including production slowdowns due to the Chinese New Year.
More Stock Expected Soon
Despite initial shortages, retailers and manufacturers are working to replenish inventory. For those still looking to buy an RTX 50 Series card, keeping an eye on restocks and avoiding overpriced resale listings will be key.
