Share the latest news updates

A reckless dumper accident claimed the lives of three young motorcycle riders near Korangi Crossing on Saturday morning. The incident highlights the alarming rise in deadly accidents involving heavy vehicles in Karachi. Despite growing public outrage, violations continue, endangering lives on the city’s roads.

Tragic Crash Near Korangi Crossing

The victims were traveling from Ibrahim Hyderi when a dumper, driving on the wrong side of the road, crushed them instantly, according to Zaman Town SHO Ateeq Rehman.

  • The deceased were identified as Asif (25) and Amjad Jilani (27), both from Bahawalpur.
  • The third victim’s identity remains unknown.
  • Their bodies were taken to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for legal formalities.

Following the accident, the dumper driver fled, abandoning the loaded truck. Enraged locals set the vehicle on fire, protesting against the unchecked movement of heavy vehicles.

A Disturbing Trend of Fatal Accidents

This tragedy is part of a worrying pattern in Karachi, where heavy vehicle accidents are on the rise. Just weeks earlier, a garbage truck belonging to the Sindh Solid Waste Management Board caused multiple crashes on Rashid Minhas Road, leaving three people dead.

On Thursday alone, six separate road accidents involving heavy vehicles resulted in nine deaths, including:

  • A married couple.
  • A Pakistan Navy employee.

Public Outrage and Political Pressure

The increasing number of fatalities caused by dumpers and water tankers has led to strong criticism of Karachi’s traffic authorities. Opposition parties, including Jamaat-e-Islami and Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P), accuse the traffic police of accepting bribes, allowing heavy vehicles to operate during restricted hours.

Governor Kamran Tessori condemned the unregulated movement of heavy vehicles, calling on the Sindh government, police, and provincial ministers to take decisive action. Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab also demanded stricter enforcement of traffic laws to prevent further loss of lives.

Demand for Stricter Regulations

The repeated tragedies have fueled demands for daytime restrictions on heavy vehicles in Karachi. Citizens urge authorities to enforce:

  • Strict penalties for reckless driving.
  • Better monitoring of traffic violations.
  • Immediate action against unlicensed or unregistered dumpers.

Despite promises of reform, Karachi’s roads remain dangerous for commuters, with heavy vehicles violating laws with impunity. Until authorities implement stricter controls, more lives will remain at risk.
