Imran Khan Alleges Prison Mistreatment in Second Open Letter to Army Chief

Imran Khan’s open letter to Army Chief General Asim Munir accuses prison authorities of mistreatment and urges the military to return to its constitutional role. In his second letter, posted on social media, the PTI founder details alleged human rights violations and calls for an end to political interference by the military.

Claims of Harsh Prison Conditions

Imran Khan claims he is being held in harsh conditions to pressure him into submission. He describes:

Being kept in a death cell without sunlight for 20 days.
Having electricity cut off for five days, leaving him in complete darkness.
Losing access to exercise equipment, television, and newspapers.
Facing arbitrary book confiscations by prison authorities.
Limited contact with his sons, allowed to speak to them only three times in six months.

Frustration Over Ignored Letters

Imran’s first letter, written on February 3, warned of a widening gap between the military and the public. He urged the army to reevaluate its policies to regain public trust. However, security sources denied receiving the letter, dismissing media reports about it.

Political and Legal Concerns

The former prime minister also criticizes recent legal and political developments. He alleges that his party and supporters face systematic suppression. According to him, these actions contradict Pakistan’s traditions and fuel public resentment against the army.

Imran warns that if the situation is not addressed, it could lead to irreparable damage for both the military and the country. He urges authorities to restore democratic principles and prevent further polarization.

Call for the Army to Step Back from Politics

Concluding his letter, Imran insists that Pakistan’s stability depends on a clear separation between the military and politics. He asserts that:

The army must stay within its constitutional boundaries.
It should withdraw from political affairs.
The military must focus on national security, leaving governance to elected representatives.

He warns that failure to act now could create deep divisions within the country, leading to long-term instability. Despite the lack of response, he continues to push for dialogue and reform.
