Traffic congestion in the North Karachi Industrial Area has become a major hurdle for businesses, affecting the transport of raw materials and export goods. Addressing this issue, DIG Traffic Ahmed Nawaz, following the directive of IG Sindh, has assured swift measures to keep traffic moving. He emphasized that uninterrupted transport is essential for industrial productivity and economic growth.
Traffic Management Strategy
During a visit to the North Karachi Association of Trade & Industry (NKATI), DIG Traffic met with industry leaders to discuss solutions. Accompanied by SSP Traffic Dr. Qamar Rizvi and other officers, he engaged with NKATI representatives, including President Faisal Moiz Khan and key officials. The meeting focused on resolving major traffic concerns affecting the industrial zone.

Encroachments: A Major Obstacle
NKATI President Faisal Moiz Khan highlighted encroachments as the primary cause of traffic congestion. He stressed that unauthorized stalls and structures along roads obstruct the movement of goods, delaying deliveries and disrupting operations.
He urged DIG Traffic to launch a strict anti-encroachment drive to clear pathways, ensuring smoother traffic flow. In response, DIG Traffic assured immediate action, stating that maintaining open roads is crucial for industrial activity.
Overcrowding of Rickshaws and Chingchis
Another pressing issue raised was the excessive number of Chingchi rickshaws. These vehicles, operating without regulation, further contribute to traffic jams. Moiz Khan pointed out that after encroachments, rickshaws are the second leading cause of congestion in the area.
DIG Traffic acknowledged the problem and committed to regulating public transport, ensuring that only permitted vehicles operate within industrial zones.
A Commitment to Industrial Growth
Authorities recognize that uninterrupted traffic flow is vital for businesses to function efficiently. Heavy vehicles transporting goods must move freely to sustain industrial activities and meet delivery schedules.
DIG Traffic reassured NKATI members that his department would work closely with local administration to enforce regulations, remove encroachments, and streamline traffic.
The Road Ahead
With the DIG Traffic’s commitment and NKATI’s persistence, efforts to improve traffic conditions in North Karachi Industrial Area have gained momentum. Authorities must now follow through on their promises to create a more efficient and business-friendly environment.
