Apple and Netflix: Is a TV App Integration Finally Happening?

Share the latest news updates

Apple and Netflix may have finally made a deal to bring Netflix content into the Apple TV app after years of waiting. Recent reports suggest that Netflix shows are now appearing in the app’s unified search, hinting at a long-awaited integration.

Signs of Integration

A user on The Incomparable’s Discord reported seeing Netflix’s Midnight Mass in their Apple TV watchlist. Intrigued, I tested the process by searching for the show in tvOS’s unified search. When I selected the “Open In…” option, I was prompted to connect Netflix to the Apple TV app.

This development is a significant change, as Netflix has previously resisted any integration with Apple’s TV app. After connecting Netflix, I found it listed in Settings > Apps > TV under the “Connect to TV” section. However, despite starting episodes of multiple series, no shows have yet appeared in my watchlist.

Gradual Rollout

Reports from 9to5Mac and other sources confirm that this feature appears to be rolling out gradually. Some users may already have access, while others may need to wait for a wider rollout. If fully implemented, this integration will help Apple’s TV app become a more comprehensive content hub.

Past Resistance and Future Possibilities

Netflix’s previous reluctance to integrate stemmed from concerns over control and user data. However, this shift could signify a willingness to collaborate, especially as competition in the streaming industry intensifies. For Apple, this integration aligns with its goal of making the TV app the ultimate destination for all streaming content.

What’s Next for the Apple TV App?

If Netflix fully integrates, the Apple TV app could finally serve as a central hub for users to manage their streaming content. Many users have long hoped for a unified platform where they can track their shows and movies across various services. Adding a live TV grid would further enhance the app’s functionality, making it even more versatile.

A New Era of Streaming

This potential integration marks a significant step forward for streaming services and their relationships with platform providers. As more companies consider partnerships like this, viewers may enjoy easier access to content and a more seamless streaming experience.

While full integration is not yet confirmed, the signs are promising. Apple and Netflix seem closer than ever to giving users what they’ve wanted for years—a unified platform that simplifies their streaming experience.
