Imran Khan has directed Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders to speed up efforts to form a grand opposition alliance. His lawyer, Faisal Chaudhry, revealed this plan while speaking on Geo News’ Naya Pakistan on Saturday.

He said that Khan wants to organize nationwide protests after Eid against the current government. The PTI founder has assigned Asad Qaiser to establish contact with opposition parties, including Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F), Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party (PkMAP), Awaam Pakistan, Grand Democratic Alliance (GDA), Jamaat-e-Islami (JI), and Mahrang Baloch.

Alliance to Demand Judicial and Media Independence

Chaudhry stated that PTI’s proposed alliance aims to restore democracy and the constitution. He stressed that human rights violations must end. However, he emphasized that these goals cannot be achieved without independent judiciary and media.

The lawyer further disclosed that Asad Qaiser leads PTI’s committee for alliance-building, while Kamran Murtaza represents JUI-F. Former Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi heads a sub-committee.

Meetings have already begun. The first consultative session was held at Qaiser’s residence. Another meeting took place at PkMAP leader Mahmood Khan Achakzai’s house.

Past Protests and Clashes

PTI has staged several protests since Khan’s removal from office. However, many of these demonstrations ended abruptly due to violent clashes with law enforcement agencies.

The May 9, 2023, protests turned violent after Khan’s arrest. Protesters attacked government and military buildings, leading to mass arrests and military trials.

Another protest on November 26, 2024, in Islamabad also resulted in fierce clashes between police and demonstrators.

Internal Conflicts Within PTI

Faisal Chaudhry also addressed reports of internal divisions within PTI. He responded to criticism from expelled party member Sher Afzal Marwat.

Marwat, while speaking on Aaj Shahzeb Khanzada Kay Sath, accused unelected individuals of controlling PTI and isolating Imran Khan. He blamed PTI Secretary General Salman Akram Raja for his removal.

However, Chaudhry dismissed Marwat’s claims. He said PTI follows an accountability mechanism, and every member can express opinions. He added that the party revolves around Imran Khan, not a single individual.

Gohar Ali Khan and Gandapur Praised

Despite internal tensions, Chaudhry praised PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur. He said they remain patient and composed despite facing criticism.

PTI faces increasing challenges as it prepares for fresh protests and struggles with internal conflicts. The party’s ability to unite opposition forces remains uncertain.
