A high-level delegation of nine Executive Directors (EDs) from the World Bank Group (WBG) has arrived in Pakistan after nearly 20 years. The delegation will discuss Pakistan’s economic development plans, investment opportunities, and strategies for implementing the recently approved $40 billion Country Partnership Framework (CPF) for the next decade.

Meetings with Top Government Officials

The delegation, representing 88 member countries on the World Bank Board of Directors, will engage in key discussions with top government officials. They will meet with the prime minister, finance minister, planning minister, and other key ministers. These discussions aim to strengthen cooperation on economic growth, infrastructure development, and private sector investment.

Apart from meetings in Islamabad, the delegation will visit Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Sindh, Punjab, and interact with representatives from Balochistan. These visits will provide firsthand insights into regional development challenges and opportunities. The World Bank is focused on fostering sustainable growth across all provinces.

The delegation will also meet with business leaders, academia, and civil society representatives. This interaction will help shape future policies that align with Pakistan’s economic needs and the World Bank’s strategic goals.

Strategic Importance of CPF

The visit comes after the approval of the CPF, a framework that has drawn global attention. Other countries are viewing Pakistan’s CPF as a model for their own engagement with the World Bank. The strategy aims to enhance economic resilience, improve infrastructure, and boost private sector growth in Pakistan.

The delegation will focus on developing business plans and ensuring their effective implementation in the coming years. Their visit signals renewed cooperation between Pakistan and the World Bank, strengthening financial and technical support for key development projects.
