SEHWAN: The 773rd Urs of Hazrat Lal Shahbaz Qalandar (RA) has begun in Sehwan, attracting thousands of devotees from across the country. The three-day celebrations started on Monday at the saint’s shrine.

Acting Governor of Sindh, Syed Owais Qadir Shah, formally inaugurated the Urs by laying a ‘chadar’ (sheet) at the shrine and offering Fateha. He was accompanied by Sindh Minister for Auqaf Syed Riaz Hussain Shah Shirazi, Secretary Auqaf Sibghatullah Mehr, and Divisional Commissioner Hyderabad Bilal Ahmed Memon.

On the occasion, Deputy Commissioner Ghazanfar Ali Qadri presented a commemorative shield to the acting governor. Shah also distributed clothes and gifts among underprivileged women.

Call for Sindh’s Development

Speaking to the media, Shah emphasised the importance of Sindh’s development for Pakistan. He highlighted that the number of devotees had increased this year compared to previous years.

Shah urged Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to convene a meeting of the Council of Common Interests within 90 days. He also announced plans to write to the National Highway Authority regarding the delay in Indus Highway’s construction.

Second Day of Celebrations in Full Swing

On Tuesday, thousands of devotees continued to pour into Sehwan. The Sindh Culture Department is hosting a literary conference featuring scholars and writers presenting research on Lal Shahbaz Qalandar.

Traditional Sindhi sports, including Malakhara, are being organised as part of the Urs celebrations.

One of the most awaited events of the Urs is Dhamaal, a devotional dance performed by fakirs, dervishes, and devotees. This mystical dance remains a central attraction of the celebrations.

Lal Shahbaz Qalandar is revered not just in Pakistan but across South Asia. Every year, his followers gather at his shrine to engage in religious rituals and festivities, keeping his spiritual legacy alive.
